A treatment with Botox® Cosmetic is a simple, non-surgical procedure that smoothes deep persistent expression lines that develop over time. Botox® Cosmetic is a natural, highly purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. Very low doses of Botox® Cosmetic are administered in tiny injections directly into the overactive muscles that cause wrinkles. Botox Cosmetic blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles. The effects of Botox are confined to the injected region and do not travel throughout the body. Botox® is the result of years of careful research and testing.
As facial muscles are used repeatedly, over time the skin is creased in areas of greatest use. The aging process causes the slow down of collagen and elastin production in the skin so that as we get older the areas of over-use become damaged and the lines become permanent. By reducing the movement of muscles in these areas, the skin stops being creased and is allowed to recover, causing the lines to soften or even fade away. In the areas treated, the muscles are temporarily inactivated (always reversible), during which time the patient can break the subconscious habit of overusing these muscles. Depending on each individual and the dose used, the response to the treatment can vary from a relaxation of the muscles to an inability to move the muscles. After Botox® treatment, normal activities can be resumed immediately, with the exception of exercise, lying down, or touching the treated areas, all for about 4 hours, after which you may continue all normal activities. For the first couple of years, frequent treatments are required to 're-educate' the facial muscles. Thereafter, treatments are less frequent until a yearly maintenance treatment is normally all that is required.

BOTOX®

The lines that appear across the forehead, around the eyes and between the brows (glabellar lines) result from muscle movement and the passage of time. After years of wrinkling they become more pronounced and exaggerated. Fortunately, there is a way to reverse these signs of aging and give your skin a younger, firmer appearance. The affects of this medication can be seen within days and increase with each session (usually done every four to six months depending on the person).
